The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a way for converts to learn about the Catholic faith, become baptized, confirmed and receive their First Communion. The program typically lasts for a year, beginning in fall and culminating at the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. Instruction, encouragement and preparation for the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation) are offered. Meetings are held weekly. The group attends the 9:30 am Mass on Sunday morning and is dismissed after the Liturgy of the Word for approximately one and a half hours of instruction.
The USCCB has a great explanation of the RCIA process that can be found here.
