Liturgical & Church Ministry

Altar Servers

Servers assist the priest as he presides over the liturgy, serve their parish family by assisting in the celebration of the liturgy as a mirror and model for the gathered assembly, and serve God through worship and prayer. Servers are to arrive at church at least 15 minutes before the start of liturgy. Outside of the liturgy, servers meet for training when they first become servers and when they are to serve at a special liturgy such as the Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Vigil services. Servers also meet occasionally to keep up to date with any liturgical changes which affect the way they perform their ministry. Please contact the parish office if you or your child would like to be a server.

Art & Environment

Do you love worshipping in a beautiful environment? Volunteers in this ministry assist in maintaining a beautiful liturgical enveiornment in church. This constists of decorating the church in accordance with the liturgical seasons, changing the flowers, adding Easter and Chrisdtmas decorations, etc. to cleaning the church itself. The time commitment is what you are able to give, whether assisting weekly with cleaning or changing decor several times a year, or both. Please contact Sandy Hornbach to volunteer or for more information – 513-728-3146, x109.

Bereavement

Members are present to families and friends at the time of a death in the parish. These members will help in planning funeral liturgies, and are also present during the liturgy to assist grieving families and friends in any way needed to ensure all goes as smoothly as possible. This includes visitations at St. Vivian. A reception following can be arranged, if requested. For every funeral, two ministers are needed for the liturgy, one minister for the visitation, and one for the reception. More volunteers are always welcome. If you are interested, please contact the parish office.

Eucharistic Adoration

Adoration is YOUR personal time with Jesus Christ. Since the Eucharist is the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of the Lord, Jesus Christ, we have a duty to adore Him in the Blessed Sacrament (His True Presence). Durin gEucharistic Adoration, the Eucharist is displayed in a monstrance (a vessel used by the Church to display the consecrated Host) flanked by candles in which the Blessed Sacrament is exposed and adored by the faithful. Exposition takes place in our Chapel on the first Thursday of each month from 8:30am to 8:00pm. This ministry provides parishioners with time for quiet prayer in the presence of our Lord. We encourage parishioners to participate in this devotion of our parish by praying before the Lord in the Chapel for 1/2 an hour – 1 hour during the time of exposition. If time commitment allows, please sign up to be a monthly adorer. If interested in becoming a monthly adorer, please contact Mary Kay Berning at 513-807-5708.

EMHC (Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion)

The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) assist the priest in distribution of Holy Communion to those attending Mass, as well as those who are homebound or in nursing homes. Ministers should have a profound reverence, respect and deep devotion to our Lord present in the consecrated host and wine and a compasssionate heart to serve the homebound. A minimum of nine volunteers are needed at each Mass to fulfill this ministry. Ministers arrive at chuch 15 minutes before Mass to prepare and stay after Mass for 10 minutes to clean the sacred vessels. Volunteers particiapte in a training session and commit to distrbute at one weekend Mass per month. One minister at each Mass volunteers to take communion to the homebound. Ministers of the Eucharist are also asked to be available, if possible, for weekday and holiday Masses. Time commitment: 90 minutes each month. If you are interested in this ministry, please contact Amy Hagedorn at 513-761-6227.

Greeters

The goal of this ministry is to welcome all who attend Mass at St. Vivian Church with a warm and friendly greeting. Volunteers are needed for all weekend Masses and holidays, and should arrive 15 minutes prior to Mass. We need 30 greeters. The time commitments is approximately 30 minutes per month for each scheduled Mass.

Lectors

Lectors read the scriptures during scheduled Masses in order to proclaim the Word of God to our parishioners. Members of this ministry attend a training session and are asked to particpate in opportunities for continuing education in this ministry. The ability to read slowly and public speaking skills are helpful. About 20 lectors are needed for weekend Masses each month. The time commitment is 90 minutes for each scheduled Mass; most lectors minister once each month.

Music Ministry

Music Ministry serves at parish liturgies to aid the gathered assembly’s full participation in singin responses acclamations, and other texts set to music and to help add beauty and solemnity to parish celebrations. Volunteers commit to weekly rehearsal and to sing or play an instrument at one liturgy per weekend, as well as special liturgies throughout the year. Rehearsal times are as follows for weekend liturgies:

Wednesdays Choir Practice

7:00pm-9:00pm

Saturdays 3:00pm Mass

2:30pm-3:00pm

Sundays 9:30am Mass

9:00am-9:30am

Music Ministry actively seeks volunteers (singers and instrumentalists). No audition is required for singers. Psalmists/Cantors and Instrumentalists must audition with the Music Director. Please contact Julie Borgerding at 513-728-4338 if you are interest in joining this ministry.

PSR (Parish School of Religion)

PSR is our religious instruction program for children who either attend public schools or are home schooled. Our PSR teachers serve on a volunteer basis, and interested persons are encouraged to contact Donna Booker at dbooker@saintclareparish.org or 513-541-2100. Enrollment opens in August of each year and notices are placed in the bulletin and on the parish website.

Ushers

The ushers assist in greeting their fellow parishioners, collectin gthe weekly offering, remaining on-call for any emergency that may occur during the liturgy, being available to distribute any handouts, and saying goodbye to parishioners at the conclusion of the liturgy. This ministry makes certain that the worship experience is hospitable for all those who attend by assuring that all present have seats and that the temperature of the church is comfortable. The ushers take up the collection and facilitate the offertory and communion processions. At the end of the liturgy they pass out bulletins and engage in fellowship with the parishioners. Volunteers of all ages are needed. The one requirement is that ushersmust have been confirmed or are at least of high school age. Seven ushers ar eneeded for each iturgy, four at the main entrance and three at the “L” entrance. Each usher is responsible for one liturgy (of their choice) per week and must arrive 15 to 30 minutes before the start of the liturgy. The ushers seldom meet outside of liturgy.
